Memorize Exodus 33:14

Verse of the Day 8.31.17 — Exodus 33:14

14 The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”1

וַיֹּאמַר פָּנַי יֵלֵכוּ וַהֲנִחֹתִי לָךְ׃2

C4C Translation: And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give rest to you.”

Following the golden calf incident (Exodus 32), God says that He will not go with the Israelites to the land flowing with milk and honey — due to their being a stiff-necked people (Ex 33:3-5). Rather, the LORD will send an angel drive out the people in the land they were promised (Ex 33:1-2).

Moses then pleads with the LORD to go with His accompany His people. The LORD says that He would go with Moses (the “you” is masculine, second person and singular), to which Moses responds by beseeching the LORD to go with “us” (first-person, plural) (Ex 33:15).3
