Do You Like Dead Mice? | Loving God On God’s Own Terms

Ever had a cat bring you a “gift”?

Cats will often bring dead (or almost dead!) animals to their owner(s) — someone they love who clearly should appreciate the gesture.

However, I suspect most of us are currently on a rodent-free diet.

I wouldn’t really appreciate that gesture — even if it’s given out of love.

An Eagles fan is probably not going to really appreciate an expensive, autographed Dallas Cowboys jersey — even if it’s given out of love.

A vegan is probably not going to really appreciate a gift card to a steakhouse — even if it’s given out of love.

For I believe that most of us want love to be expressed to us in ways that we will appreciate. We want to be loved on our own terms.

Love God On His Terms

Brothers and sisters, if we claim to love God, does it not make sense to love God on God’s own terms?

We ought to express our love to God by our obedience to God. “In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands…” (1 Jn 5:3a NIV, cf. Jn 14:15, 23, etc.).
