Is It Not Appropriate To Say “Thank You?”

Is it just me, or does it irk you when you hold the door for someone and they don’t say “thank you”? Like… they’re really going to just walk on through without saying anything…?

Also, I’m no parent, but I can only imagine how irritating it may be when one’s son or daughter is ungrateful for what a parent has provided.

As Shakespeare says, “How sharper than a serpent’s tooth it is to have a thankless child…”1

Now if we get irritated when people fail to thank us for door-holding, or when children fail to show gratitude to their parents, how much more may it irritate our Heavenly Father when we fail to give thanks for everything we have — for every breath we take?

Regardless of our circumstances, may we always remember to give thanks (Ps 118:1, 1Th 5:18).
