“Worth The Weight: Honor Your Father & Mother” | Exodus 20:12 Bible Study

First streamed on 6.14.23. First posted on 6.26.23

Though the world puts a lot of weight on youth, according to Scripture, youth are to put a lot more weight (Hb. כָבֵד  | kābēd) on their parents.

Children are to honor their fathers and mothers, treating them with godly gravity – putting weight on their concerns and needs – and the godly guidelines of the Creator’s covenant.1

Failing to do so can have consequences that are grave (Ex 21:15, 17; Lev 20:9; Dt 21:18-21; Rom 6:23).

Children ought to take care of their parents in their golden years (cf. Mk 7:8-13 esp. Mk 7:10-12), and take care to obey their parents’ godly golden rules (cf. Eph 6:1-3).

Children should honor their parents, and parents should parent honorably. Let’s be worth the weight!

Now, this is not my personal advice; this pivotal principle is the commandment of the Creator of all Life (cf. Ex 20:3-11; Ex 20:13-17).

So, according to God’s word, let’s train up the next generation in the instruction of the Lord, so that they will have long life – in the eternal Promised Land (cf. Dt 30:15-16, Dt 30:17-18; Ex 19:5-6; 1 Pet 2:9-10).

I pray for generational continuity – that the lips and lives of future generations will have Christian accents.

I pray that we are wholly willing to put in some hard work while walking the hard way of Christ (Mt 7:13-14)

May children listen to PG (parental guidance), so they can be GP (God’s Property).
