“Cross-Train Kids To Stay On The Christ’s Track” | Ephesians 6:1-4 Bible Study

First streamed on 6.21.23. First posted on 6.27.23.

Once a train really gets moving on a track, it’s hard to stop it from continuing in that direction.

And once a child really gets moving on a track in a life, it’s hard to stop them from continuing in that direction.

When they are old, they likely won’t depart from it (see Pr 22:6, which is more of a warning than a promise).

And if that direction is not a Christian course, the destination is destruction (cf. Mt 7:13-14; Psalm 1 esp. Ps 1:6, etc.).

So, let’s cross-train our kids to stay on the Christ’s track.

Children should obey their parents in the Lord – following their parents’ Christian instruction (Eph 6:1).

Children should honor their father and mother, according to the Fifth Commandment, which is the first specific commandment with a specific promise (Ex 20:12; Eph 6:2-3).

Though in Exodus, the promise was originally for long life and prosperity for the people of Israel in the Promised Land of Canaan, Paul generalizes the principle (likely) proverbially for all children who follow godly parental guidance.

And though proverbial statements are not without exception (cf. Pr 26:4-5), all who follow the Christian commands of their parents and become faithful followers of Jesus will live long and prosper in the new heavens and new earth (Is 65:17f.; Revelation 21) with the Lord forever (Jn 3:16, etc.).

Thus, fathers (especially) should not provoke their children by abusing their parental authority, but should bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord (Eph 6:4).

Let’s train them to be more and more like Jesus, that they will live forevermore with Jesus.
