“Feasting, Not Fasting! It’s Not A Wake; It’s A Wedding!” | Mark 2:18-20 Bible Study

First streamed 8.24.22. First posted 9.19.22.

When someone asks why His disciples don’t fast, while others like the Pharisees and John’s disciples do, the Savior sets them straight: It’s inappropriate to fast during wedding festivities. Why should they fast when Jesus – the prophesied Bridegroom – is among them?

Essentially, Jesus says it’s no time to fast, it’s time to feast. It’s not a wake; it’s a wedding!

For the prophesied Bridegroom (cf. Jn 3:28-30) brings about the prophesied Kingdom of God, new (marital) covenant between the Lord and His people (cf. Jer 31:31-34), and everlasting wedding banquet (cf. Mt 22:1-14, 25:1-13).

In more ways than one, Jesus is the life of the party. And the Church is the wife of the party (cf. Eph 5:22f.; 2 Cor 11:2; Rev 19:7, 21:2, 9, 22:17).

So, no matter our relationship status, let’s always be ready for the return of our Redeemer (Mt 25:13), and the everlasting Holy Ghost party with our Husband.
